James Seow, born in Malaysia and residing in the UK since the late 1990s, earned an MA in Printmaking from the Royal College of Art in 2014. His diverse work spans print, photography, sculpture, and installation, exploring the connections between traditional Eastern and Western art through digital techniques.
In his Untamed series, Seow creates a mythical, naturalistic space that balances reality and illusion from an Eastern perspective, referencing Old Master still-life paintings. This work fosters a dialogue about the relationship between humans and nature.
Incorporating plants and life forms, Seow addresses ecological issues and non-anthropocentric viewpoints. His use of scanography and photography presents weeds and insect specimens in natural disarray, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the natural world.
Seow’s work has been exhibited internationally and is included in collections at Central Saint Martins, Royal College of Art, Brookfield Asset Management Inc., St. James, Berkeley Group, and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
